I’m no saint, not by far, but damn, time does change the way you think. So what that I had a baby by my sister’s boyfriend, and then I blackmailed my former friend Charmaine because I knew her dirty little secret? Shit, I have secrets now that I’m not telling, but this here was all new territory.

That bitch Simone outdid me. I had no clue that I would be the one standing on the opposite end looking like a fool. But that was what was happening. JL gripped her by the waist the way I had wanted him to do me. He possessed her, not me. Damn, did Denim know about this?

“Joy, hey, girl.” Simone’s voice trailed off as she tried to find the right words to say.

I walked in slow motion toward those two as if I had to convince myself on what I was seeing. My brother Zachary was going to have a fit about this one, and I am always the one to bring such great news to light.

“Simone!” I said dryly

JL added, “Hey, babe, what are you doing here? I didn’t say we were meeting up today.”

My eyes darted toward him. That’s his reply to me catching him with my sister-in-law? This was a joke, right? I was being punked.

“Excuse me?” I asked.

“What are you doing here, Joy? See, this is very awkward,” Simone added.

“Bitch, I am this close to punching the shit out of you,” I yelled. But I quickly calmed down so that security wouldn’t get a hint about what was going down.

“Now hold up, what are you mad about?” JL asked.

I laughed hysterically and said, “You’re fucking Simone and have the nerve to stand in front of me and question me? That night we got together was just supposed to be that night?”

JL stood back and didn’t say anything as my eyes were filled with rage and pain. This shit just doesn’t happen to someone like me.

Simone looked from JL, then to me, “I’m sorry, sis. I didn’t know that you and JL were still getting down like that. I mean, I’m always with him so I had no clue.”

“What the hell do you mean, Simone? You’re married to my brother, of all people. You think this shit won’t get back to him?”

She shrugged her shoulders and said, “And if it does, then what? I’m no fool when it comes to Zach, OK?”

My next set of words were cut off as I knew what Simone was hinting at. I rolled my eyes and was a split second from reaching out and slapping her ass when I heard Denim yell, “Hey, JL, what’s going on?”

My body turned around and looked toward Denim. He noticed the tears in my eyes and looked from Simone, then to me. He yelled out, “Ladies, if you don’t mind, I’m going to need to talk to JL. Security will escort y’all out so there isn’t any commotion. And, yes, Joy, I’ll call you later.”

I turned and pushed past Simone, knocking her backward in the process, and marched out the back door.
